Biography

Shawn McCoy is Director of the Lied Center for Real Estate and an Associate Professor in the Lee Business School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In this role, he leads the Lied Center’s dual mission of training, mentoring, and placing students in the commercial real estate industry while also producing community-focused research that informs local and state policy.

Distinguished as a Lincoln Institute Scholar with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, Shawn specializes in real estate economics and geographic information systems (GIS). He has served as a subject-matter expert speaking to governments and public agencies spanning more than thirty countries.

His research and commentary have been featured in local, national, and international media outlets, including The Washington Post, Associated Press, Reuters, U.S. News & World Report, Bloomberg CityLab, Inman, National Association of Realtors’ REALTOR® Magazine, Architect Magazine, The New York Times, and the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

  • Appointed by the Governor’s Office to the Task Force on Corporate Ownership of Residential Housing in the State of Nevada
  • Appointed to the Housing Task Group for the Southern Nevada Strong 2050 Regional Policy Plan through the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada
  • Recipient of the Lee Business School Distinguished Service Award
  • Named Lee Business School Administrative Faculty of the Year
  • Secured a $100,000 research grant from Resources for the Future to help guide the allocation of $11.3 billion in Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding to address abandoned mine issues
